I’ve always loved princesses. Specifically, I loved the part of the story that dealt with true love. Growing up, I was the girl who wished on stars, believed in happily ever afters, and craved for a “someday” wedding. All I needed was a prince charming.
Then it happened.
Poof. I was engaged. And since my fiancé and I didn’t believe in long engagements, we decided to set a date just a hair over three months out. The ceremony would happen at my parent’s home, surrounded by our closest loved ones. It was going to be perfect.
However, I seemed to have forgotten that no matter how hard I try, I am not capable of achieving perfection. I realized that when my caterer and florist quit, my musician caught COVID, and my groom broke his foot a week before we wed causing us to postpone our honeymoon.
Thankfully, by God’s grace, He gave me a caterer, florist, magnificent co-workers that played instruments, and a groom in love enough to overcome intense pain every time he took a step (without complaining). And the day continued to be the best day I had ever experienced. On the way to my new home, I found myself telling my husband that the event was, at least in my mind, perfect.
One month has passed since that glorious day, and I'm continuing to learn a lot. However, there has been a hint of sadness knowing that it is over. That one dream I had since I was a little girl has come and gone, and will never be repeated. It’s strange to no longer think about elegant flowers, wedding gowns, or marvelous reception feasts.
But in the middle of my sulking, I heard a still small voice whisper in my ear.
Better is one day in My courts...
Alongside,
Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!
Just like that, He showed me that rather than just a day filled with dresses and diamonds, my wedding day was a picture of what’s to come. Heaven!
Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked (Psalm 84:10).
Do me a favor and picture your favorite day. Maybe it was your wedding, the birth of a child, or a vacation. But just picture it. Feel the joy and comfort of those moments? Are you smiling and laughing? Do you remember the sluggish feeling when you had to return to reality? Now picture heaven. … Angels surround, worship abounds, and lost souls have been found. In Revelation 19:6-9 the writer gives us a picture of what heaven looks like…and it’s glorious.
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.
Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”
Literal perfection. No broken feet, sickness, anxiety, strife, guilt, hurting, sin. In that moment, the church will be praising the Lamb of God around his throne. We will thank Him and glorify His name!
As amazing as my wedding was, it pales in comparison to what that day will hold. No flowers, weddings, vacations, money – nothing can compete with the throne room of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why not start praising Him now?
Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord (Psalm 150: 1,2,6).
