Do you find yourself wondering if you have ever truly accepted Christ into your heart? I assure you, my friend, you are not alone. Almost all Christians doubt their faith at one point or another in their lifetime. You more than likely have found yourself asking the questions of “If I was truly a Christian, why would I even be doubting my faith?” or “Why do I keep feeling like this?” You have probably prayed those “just-in-case” prayers more than once just to be sure you are a Christian.
I am going to tell you this, most of these doubts are attacks on your faith by Satan. All you need to do is answer one question to know if you have a relationship with God. The question you need to ask yourself is this: have you ever truly repented of sins, believed that Christ died and was raised to life on the third day, and accepted Christ as your only hope of salvation? If the answer is yes, then I tell you that you have been saved through His grace. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
If the answer is no or unsure, then the problem at hand needs to be solved. Salvation is not something difficult to attain. Romans 10:9 makes it simple: “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” When you are saved, you will not know all the answers and will still struggle from time to time. But in being saved, you will also have God with you every step of the way. And if you find yourself doubting once more, look up scriptures to help. Make a list of verses that stand out to you and that remind you of His promises. Cling to those in time of doubt or need, and it will push those doubts further and further away. “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”(Mark 9:24b).
Once you become a Christian, you will always be a Christian. Will you still sin? Yes, but you will also have a desire not to. The way you are living your life will also play a factor in knowing if you are saved. As a Christian, you should be striving to have a close relationship with Him through prayer, quiet time, and simply obeying His commands. I know that is a lot to take in, but if you are truly a Christian, your heart would strive to do just that. By seeing the evidence of Him in your life, you will know. The best way to do so would be to ask those closest to you. You can think you are living a godly life, but those around you will see your true actions. If there is no growth or relationship, then I suggest you go back and ask yourself- Do I trust in Christ alone? If no, I hope you choose to do so today.
