When a Retailer Ignores Customer Safety

In April, Target publicized its corporate policy which allows men to frequent female restrooms and changing facilities. This policy is a danger to women and children because it provides a possible gateway for sexual predators to gain access to their victims. Grown men can simply claim to self-identify as female and follow women into the restroom or changing room. No questions asked.

Not only is this policy dangerous but it creates chaos by allowing individuals to “identify” as something they factually are not. We must regard basic biological facts above one’s confused desires to be something or someone they’re not. This is necessary to keep sanity and civility in society.

Since Target announced this dangerous policy in late April over 1.3 million people have signed the boycott Target pledge.  This doesn’t include the millions of Americans who didn’t sign the pledge but feel the same way about Target.

Some may ask, has the boycott been effective thus far?

I’d say yes. Since launching the boycott, Target’s stock has dropped nearly 20 percent and roughly $10 billion in value according to Breitbart news. Also important is that other corporations have not felt the need to join Target in publicly celebrating any kind of restroom/fitting room policy since the boycott began. In normal procedure the LGBT lobby will coordinate with several corporations to come out in support of their cause in unison, as I’m sure was the expected case here. To Target’s surprise they were all alone among fellow retailers. Companies saw how unpopular Target’s decision was among the American public. Lastly, this boycott has allowed us to meet face to face with Target executives on two occasions.

In May, AFA President Tim Wildmon and I met with Target executives at their headquarters in Minnesota and last week AFA attended the annual Target shareholder meeting on your behalf. We voiced the concerns regarding the company’s dangerous policy which allows men free access to the same facilities as little girls. To date, Target has refused to change their policy.

Because Target will not budge, neither will we.

This week we are announcing a new initiative to the #BoycottTarget pledge that seeks to add 50,000 potential Target shoppers to the pledge this week, June 13-17. While we are grateful for the over a million that have pledged to boycott Target, we know there are millions more that have the same sympathy but haven’t signed the pledge.

In order for corporate America to listen to the concerns of millions of Americans we must stand firm on our values. That means not spending money with companies that go directly against our values and put women and children in harm’s way.
