Come Quickly, Lord Jesus. It’s a phrase that I have heard during difficult times. When Christians have no answer for the world or the problems in it, this phrase becomes a prayer, a plea, a mourning call. Unfortunately, with the events over the last 72 hours, all I can say is “Come Quickly, Lord Jesus!”
As I type this, there are 5 officers from the Dallas Police force who will never again walk through the front doors of their homes to hug their wives and children. There are 7 in varying stages of fighting for their lives. All we know at this point is that two snipers were so enraged with other tragic events around the nation they felt the need to kill police officers.
Our country has totally lost its morality. We have lost the light that once made America the shining city on the hill. Our country has never been more divided than we are at this moment. The United States is in very real danger of breaking apart.
There is one person who can save us. It’s not Hillary Clinton. It’s not Donald Trump. It is Jesus Christ. It is a return to morality, order, and love for your fellow man. It is time for the Christians of this nation to return to the Savior they say that they represent. It is time to do more than #praying. It is time for sackcloth and ashes It is time for Psalm 61:1-5, “Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.”
It is time for you, me, our churches, our youth groups, and all those who call themselves followers of Christ to pray to not only for the officers and their families but for the communities experiencing trials.
Here’s my manifesto: #blacklivesmatter, #bluelivesmatter, #unbornlivesmatter, #gaylivesmatter, #whitelivesmatter #Christianlivesmatter. All life matters. I’ll say that again, ALL LIFE MATTERS. It matters because God says it matters. It matters because God’s Son gave His life so that you can live. This is what Jesus says about life, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). Jesus believed in life, both here on earth and in the Kingdom to come. We have lost sight of the fact that life matters.
In such a time of turmoil as this, my only respite is to pray to the One who says that He is with me even until the end of the age; pray for our nation, which so desperately needs it right now; and to seek peace with my fellow man.
