Valentine’s Day is one of the most important holidays of the entire calendar year for me. Women have the upper hand on this day, because by nature they are more compassionate, thoughtful, and creative. I have never had a problem buying a gift for my hubby on Valentine’s. No matter if the budget is high or low, I can always come up with something that will pull at his heart strings. Husbands, on the other hand, have a more difficult time coming up with deep, sentimental gifts. I say this with confidence because there are so many men in my life (my dad, uncle, my own spouse) who ask me for advice, year, after year, after year, after year. I have even had co-workers ask for suggestions for their wives to make them feel extra special on that day of hearts, chocolates, and ridiculously large stuffed bears. I have come up with 5 suggestions I think can help every man and thrill any woman. Trust me guys. I know what I’m talking about here.
A Picture/Craft Made by You/Kids: Now this may take some web searching. Mother’s love their kids feet and hands. You can slap some red paint on those puppies, press it on a canvas or construction paper, date it, put the kids name and age and voila! That is more precious than gold. Maybe even frame it so that she can hang it in the kitchen or display it in the living room.
A Handwritten Card/Note: Get your shovels guys! It’s time to dig out all of those repressed feelings you all hide so well. Write and tell your wonderful wife why you married her, how much you admire her, how well she cooks, and her incredible ability to always have something to say even when she should be silent. A Coupon Book: All humans know how to clean, cook, and do laundry. It is time to display your skills. Show her what your mama gave up! Make a coupon book that she can use at any time with things that you can do to help around the house. Examples: One night of laundry duty, one night of vacuuming services, one afternoon of washing the car. Get the point? Do enough for two months. Yes, I said two months. Their expiration dates should be Valentine’s Day of the coming year.
A Night Off: Send her out with the girls! This is a great opportunity to work with some fellow husband friends and arrange a ‘Girls’ Night’ for your wife and her friends. She desperately needs this.
A Husband/Wife Night: This is the most precious to me. Our children are little so there is little to no time for just he and I. I absolutely adore doing things with my husband. He is my arm candy when we go out, my pillow when we lounge on the couch, the best chef when he’s trying to impress me, and the best friend I want with me when we are cheering on our favorite football teams. Plan something special just for the two of you. Call the in-laws and schedule for them to keep the kids all night. For one whole night, give her your undivided attention. NO SOCIAL MEDIA! Leave your cares at the door and love each other.
God didn’t give us this life to miss the little things. Take advantage of Valentine’s Day by stopping and making a point to really love on your wife. Paul meant what he said in 1 Corinthians 13:13, “ And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Show some love to your bride this Valentine’s Day.
