Engage Magazine: Created To Reflect
About Engage

Engage exists to provide perspective on culture through the eyes of a Biblical worldview, showing how that worldview intersects with culture and engages it.

We are a team of 20-somethings brought together by a common faith in Jesus Christ and employment in our parent organization American Family Association

Have you been to a conference before? It’s likely you have. There are many good conferences where you are informed on a particular topic. But have you ever been to a weekend full of electric hip-hop music, engaging speakers, and inspiring time spent with your friends? We have just the weekend for you. Yes, Engage. We are excited to let you in on our newest project: the Engage Worldview Conference.

Why EWC?

We all have a worldview, a set of assumptions that helps make sense of the world around us. This worldview can be built upon anything, including false or harmful ideas. We grew up with entertainment and academics we allowed to develop our worldview and it has little comparison with the truths of Scripture. As we grew, we began asking big questions our after-school TV specials didn’t answer.

Three years ago, the team that would eventually become Engage sat around a table and found we were all asking similar questions. We were all between 25 and 30, but were each in unique life stages and came from unique backgrounds. Some of us were married with kids, some did not have kids yet, and some were single. Some of us had worked in our careers for a few years and some were just starting out. However, our questions were very similar. They all boiled down to worldview.

As we deconstructed the worldview prepared for us as children and reconstructed it based on the authority of Scripture, we saw an opportunity to help others in our generation do the same. We spent two years working on the project and eventually named it Engage because of our desire to engage the gospel, engage people, and engage the world. Now it is time to take the next step and provide a weekend that is dedicated to helping millennials engage and build a biblical worldview.

What’s the difference between this conference and any other?

Glad you asked, EWC is more than a conference. It’s the culmination of three years of learning and cultivating a desire to see our generation equipped to engage the culture with Christ-likeness and a biblical worldview.

At EWC high school students, college students, and young adults from all over America will gather at Hope Church in Tupelo, MS, for a weekend of great teaching and music featuring artists Cam and Flame as well as nationally-known apologist Alex McFarland and author/speaker Sean McDowell. Breakout sessions with Engage authors will provide practical tips and small group opportunities to help you strengthen your biblical worldview and equip you wrestle with the truths of the gospel and use them to engage the culture.

Another major difference is the cost. Some conferences can cost in the several $100. EWC is only $20 for the conference and $25 for the weekend pass. In addition, Engage is developing material to give you at the conference, and you will make priceless memories with your friends while there.

What is this year’s topic of discussion?

This year’s theme is based in Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” In light of recent events and movements in our culture, it is evident to the follower of Christ that biblical manhood and womanhood is being misunderstood in our world. We know that a vital part of one’s worldview is establishing a standard to judge by. This is our goal.

What is biblical manhood? What is biblical womanhood? What is marriage and how does the Bible define it? What should our response be to those who say that marriage and gender identity are relative?

Through the teaching and small group discussions at EWC 2017, we hope to equip you and other young adults to not only be confident in the truth and apply Scripture to the questions of our day, but have the resources to share it with the world in truth and love. Ultimately we were created to reflect Christ in how He made us and in how we engage the world. Thus our conference name is Created to Reflect, or #C2R.
